TARTU IN LIGHT ANNOUNCES THE OPEN CALL FOR TAVA2020 LIGHTING DESIGN WORKSHOP LEADERS AND LIGHT ARTISTS

Architectural Lighting and Light Art Festival Tartu in Light | TAVA2020 announces the open call for both Estonian and International artists and designers to create city space light installations and to lead IALD architectural lighting workshops. Everyone who is fascinated by the beauty achieved by light, as well as by the practical value creation of the city space, are invited to apply. The deadline for the applications is 15.02.2020.

IALD LIGHTING DESIGN WORKSOPS

Three architectural lighting design workshops will take place in the centre of Tartu within the framework of TAVA2020 Architectural Lighting and Light Art Festival. The goal of the workshops is to give students, lighting design enthusiasts and professional lighting designers a “hands-on“ experience, from concept development to construction of installations, as well as training on key lighting design topics. The workshops will be led by internationally renowned IALD lighting designers. The installations prepared during the workshops are a major attractions of the TAVA2020 Light Path (28 - 31 October 2020).

City space installations

The light installation trail, open to the public on 28 - 31 October, bears the overall title "Light Games in the City". “In order for the urban space to change, people's views must change first. Temporary artistic intervention in urban space is an ideal manner to introduce new possibilities. “Light Games in the City” invites the public to discover their city from a different angle, to offer material for thought and joy of discovery. In order to emphasize playfulness and social diversity, we have chosen small utopian arrangements of our own in the heart of Tartu city centre to become the locations of light installations,” explains Andra Orn, curator of TAVA2020 city-space installations.

TARTU IN LIGHT WILL BRING LUCI AGM TO TARTU IN A YEAR!

In October 2020, dark and autumnal Tartu will become a luminous light center, bringing knowledge and warmth to the hearts of the city and people. The main events of the Tartu Architectural Lighting and Light Art Festival TAVA2020 will take place from 28th to 31st October 2020, but the week of workshops and side program will create a festival lasting almost a month. In cooperation with Tartu in Light, LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International) Annual General Meeting will take place for the first time in Estonia, bringing together nearly 300 specialists in the field of light art and architectural lighting.

LUCI AGM AND TAVA2020 CONFERENCE

TAVA2020 conference is held with LUCI Annual General Meeting, which is the only international forum for cities on urban lighting and will feature panel discussions, workshops and open conferences on new lighting trends and projects from cities worldwide. Following AGM Rabat in 2018, and AGM Shanghai in 2019, the network will return to Europe for the LUCI AGM 2020 in Tartu, Estonia. It is a great honor and recognition for the realisation of the visions of the City of Tartu and TAVA.

Lightfair

The Lightfair and the TAVA2020 Conference will take place on the same time October 30-31, 2019, next to each other. The Lightfair showcases luminaries and other products for both indoor and outdoor usage with the aim of bringing together manufacturers and consumers and raising awareness of the importance of good lighting.

TAVA2020 is looking for partners and sponsors!

The main mission of organising the Tartu in Light event is to develop the field of lighting design, light art and electric lighting by sharing the knowledge, increasing the number of professionals and raising the awareness of lighting design amongst whole population. Tartu in Light is a collective effort for a better and more beautiful living environment!
