OPENING CONCERT

What happens when acoustic instruments blend with electronic vibrations, and musical genres lose their boundaries, merging into something fresh and new, yet intimately familiar?

Multiinstrumentalist ja helilooja Tuulikki Bartosik ning helilooja-produtsent Sander Mölder on leidnud ühise keele, milles kargelt põhjamaised akustilised helid kohtuvad kaasaegse elektroonikaga. Nende ühistööna valminud album “Playscapes” on pälvinud laialdast rahvusvahelist tunnustust, sealhulgas Rootsi muusikaajakirja Lira aasta folktroonikaalbumi tiitli. Duol on töös uus album, mis uurib kodumõistet, lähtudes nii nende endi kogemustest kahe maailma vahel elamise ja reisimise kui ka laiemate kuuluvuse ja ümberpaiknemise, sõja ja põgenike teemadest meie killustunud ja rebenenud maailmas.

At the concert held as part of the Tartu Light Biennale, you will hear both tracks from the *Playscapes* album and newer, unreleased material in collaboration with visual artists from Tartu Light. The music will take you on a journey through places and feelings, inviting the listener to look within, while also leaving room to comfortably nod along to the beat.

Tuulikki Bartosik is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer. Her music has been compared to the work of neoclassical icon Philip Glass and minimalist composer and pianist Ólafur Arnalds. Bartosik has released several internationally acclaimed and award-nominated albums and has collaborated with symphony orchestras and renowned conductors. Her work and compositions have been featured on major radio channels in Great Britain, Canada, and Germany. Bartosik is widely known as an innovator of the free-bass accordion. Over the years, she has focused on developing a unique sound and mode of expression in her compositions and performances, weaving together different instruments, styles, and genres, and using her knowledge of Nordic traditional music as a starting point to create new, multi-layered musical worlds.

Sander Mölder is an Estonian composer and music producer whose diverse creative style combines Western classical tradition with the modes of electronic music. He has created numerous stage works, including five contemporary ballets, and is known for his albums that blend pop music and electronic dance music. These have earned him several awards and have been played on internationally recognized shows hosted by figures such as Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs.
