IALD LIGHTING DESIGN WORKSHOP 16–18 October 2026

This practical, public workshop focuses on planning spatial, aesthetic, and functional lighting within a natural environment. Participants will work in small groups to develop lighting design concepts, test ideas after dark, and construct actual lighting solutions that will remain on display for the public. The workshop is suitable for architects, landscape architects, lighting specialists, and students wishing to expand their toolkit in the field of lighting design.

What is covered:
- Lighting fundamentals: lighting techniques, color temperature, optics.
- The impact of lighting on space, materials, and people; visual hierarchy and
focal points.
- Lighting needs and disturbances — who needs light and when, and
how light can be disruptive if used at the wrong time or place.
- From concept to execution: generating and realizing ideas.
- Teamwork: communication, scheduling, division of tasks.
