Concept
How do we endure the unbearable lightness of being? Which skills of our predecessors can we pass on to our unborn children and how? We are in a recurring vortex of millions of histories, and our survival depends not only on resilience, but also on our visionary leadership and the courage to take action, on using the wisdom and experience of our ancestors in modern ways, on seeing the bigger picture. We need to find in ourselves and in humanity a connection enriched by the all-pervading vibration of starlight, the power of the universe.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera speaks of the meaningfulness of living only one life (einmal ist keinmal), of the complete identification of humans with their own image, of remaining in the grip of eternal boundaries. It all makes us an episode, random and sterile, and leaves an impression in retrospect as if we never existed. In such a world, every moment or gesture is burdened by the unbearable weight of responsibility.
What are our dreams for the world beyond tomorrow? What is the power of light? What will the light of survival for us all become? The deciding factor between heaviness and lightness is hope, the belief that tomorrow, or after tomorrow, everything will be better than it used to be. After the rain today, the weather will be nicer tomorrow. There is a light at the end of the tunnel (of problems).
The Tartu in Light 2024 programme combines state-of-the-art technology with the spiritual narrative of nature, a pulsating energy with the fruits and roots that we have as human beings have inherited. The concept of indoor and outdoor exhibitions and concerts of the festival will show that the arts have enough disruptive power to make sense of issues of importance to humanity with the reach and conviction they need.Ala kaart
