"A BIRD OF HEART"

AULI UIBOUPIN & INES-ISSA VILLIDO

There’s silence in your heart’s keep,
and a bird of a thousand years
for a love for you it bears
sest ta armastab sind

Juhan Viiding

A heart’s cage is both a sanctuary and a prison a space of silence where an eternal bird – the embodiment of wisdom and endurance – resides.

strong and vulnerable. Inside it, within a cage, is a vulture created by Ines-Issa Villido — a bird now facing extinction. The heart symbolizes the force of life and love, while the vulture reflects the fragile balance of nature and the need to protect it. The heart is welded entirely from reclaimed metal while the vulture is made with discarded fishing nets. Made from reclaimed materials, the work stands as both a visual and ethical statement: value can be born from what was once discarded and abandoned. It stands to remind us that the life within our “heart’s cage” depends on how we treat the most vulnerable – both nature and each other.

"DANSE MACABRE. KUTSE TANTSULE"

INES-ISSA VILLIDO

Kui surm sind tantsule kutsub – kas võtad kutse vastu, põgened või eirad? Memento mori.

Skulptuur on inspireeritud Bernt Notke 15. sajandi maalist “Surmatants”, mille keskseks sõnumiks on meenutus, et kõik on surma ees võrdsed olenemata rikkusest, seisusest

Vastakuti asetatud “Südamelind” ja “Danse macabre” on dialoogis: eluvaikus silmitsi surmatantsuga.

AUTHORS

AULI UIBOPIN is a waste alchemist withover a decade of dedication to giving abandoned materials new life. Her work bridges art, sustainability, and circular design, transforming discarded textiles and objects into meaningful resources. At the core of her creative practice lies a holistic reuse framework that extends the lifespan of materials and uncovers new possibilities for reusability.

Her metal heart sculpture, crafted from only salvaged and repurposed materials, embodies this philosophy - turning remnants of the discarded world into a symbol of resilience and renewal.

Through her art installations, transformative projects, and community-driven initiatives, Auli’s mission is to turn waste into wonder — sparking dialogue, fostering connection, and reimagining the value of what others leave behind.

INES-ISSA VILLIDO is an environmental sculptor whose work is fueled by her deep passion for nature and the concern for the preservation of its fragile ecosystems. Her typical sculptural materials include discarded cigarette butts and fishing nets, as well as other forms of trash. She has studied and taught in the sculpture department at Pallas University of Applied Sciences and holds a master’s degree in plastic technology from TalTech.

The vulture sculpture, in the artist’s characteristic approach, is tied to a larger purpose — to highlight a problem that demands attention and wider awareness. Vultures act as nature’s sanitarians, keeping the spread of bacteria and viruses in check, yet due to human activity, these birds are now endangered. If vultures disappear, the global natural balance would also be lost.
